To function as a club we need a pool of committed and qualified coaches. All of the club's coaches have up to date UK athletics coaching licences, having passed the relevant coaching courses and have undergone PVG checks. The coaches, who all work on a voluntary basis, are responsible for delivering club training sessions and are in attendance at competitions to assist and guide the athletes.
We encourage members and parents of junior members to consider gaining coaching qualifications and become actively involved in the coaching set-up within the club. There is a continual need for new blood within the coaching setup and adding additional coaches and broadening the athletics disciplines we can provide coaching in will enable us to grow as a club and be more competitive.
The club is committed to improving the standard of its coaching and fully supports coaches and helpers who wish to progress through the athletics coaching qualifications. These are gained by attending the UK Athletics training courses that are run by Scottish Athletics.
Coaches and helpers are actively encouraged to attend courses, workshops, development days and regional and national squad training sessions as appropriate. Course fees are funded by the club as are reasonable out of pocket expenses.
In order to support our growth we are looking to increase and develop our coaching resources. We are opening up opportunities for those wishing to start coaching, at a variety of levels and disciplines. The club will pay for this coaching and provide support and guidance for those wishing to undertake such a role. You do not need to be an athlete to be a coach but to have enthusiasm to encourage others in athletics. We will happily consider applications from parents of juniors or if there is anyone you know who might be interested, please let them know if this opportunity. Once qualified, the coaching will run on a flexible rota system and you won't be required to coach every night.
If you are interested please contact the club secretary for a discussion.
