2021 race Results available HERE

This race is normally held on the first weekend in October and is a memorial race for our former club chair and coach Neil McCover. The event is held over 13.1miles of scenic countryside and local towns and villages bringing together our local communities. It attracts first time runners as well as seasoned club competitors, and has an enviable record for setting personal best times.

Some of the many stories of runners who take part can be found on the race Facebook page -  https://www.facebook.com/Neil-McCover-Memorial-Half-Marathon-147005198706936/ - along with details of the next running of the race.

A key element of the race is that we welcome each year serving and retired police officers competing for the Neil McCover trophy. In 2021 Matt Higson added his name to the trophy. Matt had competed with (and against) Neil in police athletics team in the past.

Neil McCover, competing athlete, club chair, membership secretary and junior coach of Kirkintilloch Olympians was tragically killed in a cycling accident on 8 October2010.

Neil was a keen long distance runner, competing in marathons, duathlons and triathlons, including the European Ironman Austria amongst his greatest achievements. He was a Superintendent in Strathclyde Police, involved latterly in police training and had been a leading member of the police athletics team. A considerable loss to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, through this event we hope to pay tribute to Neil’s significant contribution to the club and athletics.
